Wolfgang wrote:Actually there are 2 different Famous Five series, one from the late 70s, one from the mid-90s. There are two BBC-serials of Five on a treasure island (1957) and Five have a mystery to solve (1963). There are two Danish Famous Five films, one based on Five get into trouble (1970), the other one bases on Five go adventuring again (1969).
There are 4 German Famous Five films recently produced, the first loosely based on Five on a tresaure island and Five on Kirrin island again, the second one on Five get into trouble, the third and fourth one are not based on any Famous Five book written by Enid Blyton.
I don't think there's any series done on Malory towers, but about St Clare's, there's a Japanese anime series, and three German Films, although the films have hardly anything to do with the original series done by Enid Blyton.

Edit: there's also a French film, " Le Club des Cinq en Randonnée" (Five on a hike together).

In addition to the films and series mentioned by Wolfgang, British TV films of The Island of Adventure and The Castle of Adventure have been made. There have also been New Zealand TV series of the Adventure and Secret books (only loosely based on the original stories), a cartoon series of the Faraway Tree and Wishing-Chair tales, and a 'Famous Five on the Case' cartoon series about the children of the Famous Five. And of course, there have been several series of Noddy - and there was also a Bom cartoon in Enid's day.

BBC serials? Five on a Treasure Island. Mine says " A Children's Film Foundation serial by Gerald Landan" 1957. No mention of the BBC. Is there a BBC version as well? Can't find the other DVD just now but am pretty sure it is also CFF.

Yes, Five on a Treasure Island (1957) and Five Have a Mystery to Solve (1963) were made by the Children's Film Foundation and were shown in cinemas.

We hosted a birthday lunch for an old friend today, one of the party brought along an amusing Channel 4 "boxed set", a Comedy Strip version of the Famous Five with Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, must say it made an amusing interlude between lunch and tea!
"Its a magic wood!" said Fanny suddenly.

Thought some of you might be interested in this poster, that I put together a couple of years ago; for 'Five Have a Mystery to Solve' (1964):
