I've recently revisited Nick Capaldi's FLICKR photo album "Famous Five 70s Filming Locations" [link], and I've come across this pic [link] of this shop, the front of which, in "Five Go To Smuggler's Top", Mr Barling and Mr Lenoir's butler Block have a discreet chat.

Considering how, it has been mentioned, a few of those filming locations have been used more than once, I can't help but wonder if perhaps this very shop, or at least the front thereof, was used as Finniston's antique shop in "Five on Finniston Farm". Thoughts?

Pretty certain it wasn't - I don't believe we went anywhere near Burley again after Smugglers Top

It's definitely not Burley! I'll have to look at my location notes, Which are stuffed away in a dusty box somewhere, & find out where it is. :D

Thinking about it - and I've not seen it in years - but thinking about where we were around that time, I wonder if the Finnistone Farm store was Exbury Post Office.

Why I had thought it was that store in Burley was because I recalled Mr Finniston's antique shop having white exterior window and door frames... but I could be wrong.

We'll see what number_6 digs up....!

My F5 stuff, including my location notes, are being stored up in the loft at the moment. Having a good move around in every room, so I won't be able to retrieve them just yet. However, after watching the Finniston farm episode again, I will side with Gary Russell on this one. I'm pretty sure it is the former Post Office in Exbury. The brief glimpse of the house in the background seems to point to it. It's very similar in appearance. I will get round to raiding the attic for my notes pretty soon! :D

Hi,

I am a big famous five fan (1978 series). I always try to find new locations from the series.
I am currently reviewing Famous Five on a hike together.
I don't know if this has already been found, but I found the curve where the Five are rushing to the police car to tell him that they met the convict the night before.
Check it out on Google Street View:

It is near Burley on the intersection Ringwood Road / Castle Hill Lane.

Yes, I think you're right on this one, Luke. We"ll try & get Gary Russell on the case. Maybe he can shed some light on the exact location. However, he may need to check his notes from the series, which will be difficult, as he is in Australia & his notes are in Cardiff! Doh!

Problem for me (being in Aus notwithstanding) is I *don't* have all the paperwork for S1, only S2. So yaying or naying this is pretty impossible for me right now. One day i hope to find the missing callsheets from S1. One day...

No worries, Gary! Good of you to drop in & put us straight. Hope you're having a cracking time in Aus. I'll have a look at the location the next time I'm in the New Forest, which should be sometime in May 2015! :D

Thanks for your answers. In the meantime, I have found that the police car scenes from "on a hike together" have been shot indeed on Castle Hill, next to Burley Street. A swiss fan, who has visited the area last September and whose report is on a german site, confirmed me the exact location.
Here is a link to his report (in german, but with a lot of pictures :D )

Thanks, Luke! It's very interesting to see the "then" and "now" scenes.
