Help with information about a book.

Post by bottleman44 »

In 1954 I was ten years old and I remember reading a book at school titled ' The mystery of the missing pearls ' which I have always remembered as an Enid Blyton book. It was a hardback edition and it took me about three sessions in English lessons to read it. I remember that I couldn't wait for the next English lesson to carry on reading this exiting mystery. As I remember there were several burglaries and the main clue at each burglary was a cross left in the dust or soil. At the end it was revealed that the local bakery delivery man was the culprit and the cross was made by the bottom of his bread basket. I have searched everywhere for this book but have had no success. Does anyone know if this is indeed an Enid Blyton book and if so when was it published. Even better does anyone know of an original copy for sale ! ?

There is a book called - The Mystery of the Missing Necklace. That was a book about finding pearls.

The book I think you are meaning is The Mystery of the Invisible Thief.

Great deduction Julie - I would agree with your helpful answer.

Here's an original edition available currently on ebay:

Plus there was another key aspect to how the culprit disguised his identity and why he wasn't suspected at first, but that would be giving away even more spoilers!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Thank you so much Julie. I ordered the book which was advertised on ebay and have now received it so it must have been the Mystery of the Invisible Thief that I read in 1954/55. Where on earth did I get The Mystery of The Missing Pearls from ?? Once again, many thanks.

You're welcome. Maybe you also read Missing Necklace about finding the missing pearls, and somehow after all these years the two books sort of combined, in your memory. :)

Can anyone remember the title of an EB book roughly based on PILGRIM'S PROGRESS?, it doesn't come to me though the topic was discussed not that long ago...
