Looking for a compilation book of stories

Dear All

I'm looking for a book from my childhood, it would have been in between late 70's - 80's it was an bedtime style book with a midnight blue shiny cover like an annual. I remember it had a story about a little girl who made her own doll hospital. It's the illustrations that made this book the nearest likeness would Rene Cloke illustrations. I believe that there was a cartoon like dragon on the front cover with a moon behind it. I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find it, even on this site.

I do not know what the book was called which is half the problem. Part of me wants to think that is this Gift Book of Bedtime stories, which seems to be the closest match:

But I want to make sure. I remember the story of the sick dolls and really want to have a trip down memory lane. Does anyone own this book and can confirm that I am not going mad.

Thank you

Welcome, Leanne. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the book you're looking for, but I do have the volume pictured (Enid Blyton's Gift Book of Bedtime Stories) and it doesn't contain any stories about a girl making a dolls' hospital. I hope you manage to find the right book!

The Illustrator is Willy Schermele

I've been searching for 20 years and now I'm a little close. I remember all those pictures but does anyone know what the book is called. I would really love to get hold of it.

Thank you all

Thank you Pete

Just found one on ebay with the same illustrations in it. It was the Good Morning book. There must have been a third edition printed in the 1970's as the cover was completely different but the inside covers are the same.

Thank you so much. I can't believe I've found it after all these years.

I'm glad you've been able to identify the book, Leanne. I haven't got Enid Blyton's Good Morning Book but the illustrations look lovely.

The lady from Etsy contacted me.

Looks like my book was a compliation of all three books with the Willy Shermele Illustrations:

http://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/book ... Story+Book
http://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/book ... php?id=875

I do remember it being quite thing and heavy. It must have been a Purnell Treasury or something.

It would be nice to get the one volume, but for now I have ordered all three seperate volumes.

I can't wait to read the story of the Dog and the Duck there was a picture of a Punch and Judy Theatre which I loved and the story of the sick dolly who's mummy made a dolly hospital.

I am so grateful for all you help

The Good Morning Book came yesterday. The warmth of nostalgia that came over me whilst reading the Dog and the Bear in bed last night was beyond anything I could put in writing. I am more convinced that my version was a big volume of all three Willy Shermele illustrated books.

Now I know who the illustrator was, I have found 5 different books by Enid Blyton with illustrations by Willy Shermele. Two are not listed in the cave. Once they have arrived I will scan and send to you for possible inclusion?

Of course I have yet to discover the name of the original book I owned. but I am fairly confident that it will turn up over time.

When Purnell sold all their archives much of the original artwork from these books was offered for sale by a dealer who bought most of it, and I have a piece hanging on the wall of one of my Blyton rooms.

Oh the mouth watering image that phrase conjures up in my imagination. It's the use of the word 'one' that makes is so special. :D

Fortunately my artwork has got a golliwog in it, so it wasn't taken by Seven Stories for their exhibition.

They also left this Grace Lodge artwork with me for the same reason. The original is also hanging on my wall.

the use of watercolours and ink in these prints are nice.
