I am assuming it is the same story that appears in Tales After Tea but republished alone.

Jeannie finds a shining sixpence on the ground on her way back from the shops, but remembers her mother always said things found on the street must already belong to someone, and that she should try and give it back. Jeannie thinks that's an awful bother so hurries home and then goes and spends the money on lots of sweets. The sweets give her a stomach ache and has to miss a birthday party the next day.

If you want to know how it ends:

She eventually confesses all to her mother, and gives the sixpence to its rightful owner - and gets invited to their birthday party.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.
