Good guess - absolutely spot on, Courtenay. Joey was a clockwork clown who had a functionality crisis when his key was lost. Could have been worse; his spring might have broke.

Ah, didn't realise that — of course I know who Tom Jones is, but he's a bit before my time. More my mum's era.
