It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

"It's like an enormous underground cathedral. It just wants an organ to begin playing a grand and magnificent hymn."

In other words, be sure you don't drop off before the stalactites do. They'll give you a nasty headache!

Gosh, well done, Dave! :D It's Jack in The Valley of Adventure, as they're exploring the caves — and yes, this is the one with all the stalactites and stalagmites.

Over to you.

Thanks, Courtenay. The key words there (which I couldn't get for a long time) were 'cathedral' and 'magnificent'. I then remembered that when there was a discussion a while back about stalagmites and stalactites, I had delved back in the search facilty, and found someone had quoted something about a cathedral. As it happens, it was Anita in a post as long ago as 2008 (before I joined the forum), so I was lucky her attention was elsewhere today, otherwise she would have been the one to guess it.

Here's the new one - nice and short:

I could be way out but I'll have a guess:

Coriolanus, the Exile?
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.

And what a good guess it was! Perfectly correct, Anita. Quite briliant.
