I'm going to make a guess...

The Doll that Ran Away to Sea?

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Wow, that was a lucky guess then — I'd figured it must be "The ____ that ran away to sea", but wasn't sure about "doll". It was just something that fitted and sounded likely for a Blyton story. I decided not to cheat and look for it in the Cave beforehand, but I now see it was first published in Sunny Stories for Little Folks in 1931 and has been reprinted a number of times since, but I've never read it.

I'll post a new puzzle some time today!

Ooer, I'd forgotten I hadn't yet found one... Um, I should have said tomorrow. Like the joke sign you sometimes see in Australian pubs saying "FREE BEER TOMORROW"... of course the sign remains the same every day and the tomorrow in question never comes.

Erm, how about this one?? :D
