Thank you --Deepeabee,--.Yes, I have also found it strange that Ern was not offered the spare room in Fatty's house.--- He slept in the shed in Banshee Towers --- also in Strange Messages---- where he follows Fatty late at to Fairlin Hall , and rescues him from the cupboard where the men locked him in. :) :)

Yes, I have also found it strange that Ern was not offered the spare room in Fatty's house.
Why? Nothing strange at all. The Trottevilles were a middle-class family, complete with servants. There is no possibility of a working class boy staying as a guest with such a family. He wouldn't even be allowed to sit to a meal with them, he would have to have a bite to eat in the kitchen with the other servants.

Perhaps --yes, but I was looking at it from another angle-- that he was such a staunch friend of the Find Outers. :? :?

I have often wondered how big Fatty's shed would have been. Any thoughts from anyone?

Fatty's shed would have been small --- yet not quite-- very cosy. There would be an oil stove, a small window to let in the light and air . The window will be opened only when Fatty is cleaning the shed with Larry ,Daisy, Pip and Bets to help him.It would be a very comfortable, sheltered shed--- just right for the Find Outers and dog. :) :)

What were the sitting arrangements in Fatty's shed..they never seemed to be short of space to lounge and work ,plot or plan.Did the shed contain a couch or arm chairs?

Hi-- Pete, as I wrote Fatty's shed had a couple of old, but sturdy armchairs, with clean cushions. There is also a camp bed, always ready and made. There is a wooden bench half way round--- it is wide enough to rest comfortably and plan things. And of course Ern's table is there ,which they use as a work table Everything is cosy and comfy. :) :)

This poor old shed must be bulging at the sides by now! Naughty thought - did the writers of Dr Who get the idea of the Tardis from these books?

Fatty's shed would have been neat and cosy---just the right place for the Find Outers to meet on cold, winter evenings. :) :) :)

I always imagined Fatty's shed like a playroom; about the size of an average room with a table in the middle and chairs set around andnof course all Fatty's disguising gear set around the Walls.

Yes, that's similar to how I imagined it but I always had to readjust whenever something new was added...like the crocodile on the wall.

It is the crocodile skin on the wall -- not the crocodile-- deepeabee . Fatty's shed is really very cosy as I imagine it,--- very, very Find Outerish. :) :) :)

To me, Fatty's shed would be no bigger than 10x8, whilst the SS's shed would be 8x6.
