It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

The Find-Outers saw in the New Year
With the aid of some cool ginger beer,
And a huge slab of cake,
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

The Find-Outers saw in the New Year
With the aid of some cool ginger beer,
And a huge slab of cake,
Topped with Cadbury's Flake,
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

(E. Blyton, Sunday Times, 1951)

The Find-Outers saw in the New Year
With the aid of some cool ginger beer,
And a huge slab of cake,
Topped with Cadbury's Flake —
Even Goon joined in the good cheer!

(It was his New Year's resolution to be nice to the Find-Outers — mainly in the hope that their friend Superintendent Jenks might finally consider him for a promotion — but it didn't last a week. )

So after a week had gone by,
Goon came down to earth from his 'high',
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Goon came down to earth from his 'high',
His temper returned

So after a week had gone by,
Goon came down to earth from his 'high',
His temper returned
And his anger still burned

This seems to have been forgotten so I've finished it off.

So after a week had gone by,
Goon came down to earth from his 'high',
His temper returned
And his anger still burned
So promotion was still far from nigh.
'Tis loving and giving that makes life worth living.
