There was a young girl called Kate,
Who loved to swing on her gate,
Until over she fell,
And gave such a yell...
'Tis loving and giving that makes life worth living.

And gave such a yell...
She frightened the life from her mate.

A new one:

When Buster cashed after the ball,
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

"Cashed"? Did you perhaps mean "Dashed" Eddie?

When Buster dashed after the ball,
He slid on his paws down the hall,

Oh, dear  I meant chased, John, but dashed works just as well. :D

He slid on his paws down the hall,
And came to a halt,
Though it wasn't his fault,

When Buster dashed after the ball,
He slid on his paws down the hall,
And came to a halt,
Though it wasn't his fault,
Tangled up in Miss Pepper's new shawl.
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

(E. Blyton, Sunday Times, 1951)

Great last line Rob. Sorry about "chased" Eddie. It is actually so much better than "dashed" but I didn't think of it.

Another:

Old Goon thought of taking a stroll,

Old Goon thought of taking a stroll,
So he did, but he fell down a hole,
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

When the Five walked in the wood,
They encountered an elf in a hood,
