Anne was beginning to think maybe agreeing to be part of the new "Famous Five for Adults" series hadn't been such a good idea after all.

First of all, may I say to Rob and Darryl (daanton) that I think you are being a bit unfair (even if in a light-hearted way) to the illustrator, Harold Millar. He is depicting the moment when the young fairy, Princess Fenella, is snatched up by Sly-One, the malevolent gnome, just before they disappear into the infinite, as a result of the wish he makes at the wishing well. Millar depicted that moment with accuracy and, yes, a hint of danger, necessary to provide the conflict that drives the story. I don't really see what is scandalous. Remember, Fenella is only a fairy child; her breasts would not have formed. I suspect that you are both applying modern connotations to something to which no-one would have batted an eyelid in 1936.

Rob, you may be interested to know that Millar, although a Scot, studied at the Birmingham School of Art. He was a highly respected artist, who illustrated both adult and children's books, especially those by Edith Nesbit. (The Yellow Fairy Book seems to be the only Blyton book he illustrated, however.)

Anyway, that out of the way, on to the caption competition.

As is always the case, and perhaps more than ever with this one, it was almost impossible to select just one. Great efforts from Pete and Anita, but I think the winner is Rob's

My own caption would have been

"I'll let you go if you can guess my name," said Sly-One.
Fenella thought for a while. "Er, it wouldn't be Trumpelfakeskin, by any chance?"
