I'm fond of the 1974 Swallows and Amazons film as well, though I'm not keen on the casting of Nancy and Uncle Jim. The girl who plays Titty in that film is superb - she conveys wonder, innocence and imagination very naturally.

Oh yes, the 1970's Railway Children film was absolutely brilliant & tried to follow the original story! I'm still In contact with Sally Thomsett, who appeared in the film. She's absolutely lovely! :D

I'm a big, big fan of E Nesbit and have ready many of her books - but i must admit the film of The Railway Children is every bit as good as the book - and probably more effective in some ways. 8)

I was in contact with her as well. However, I have had to cool it off as she was getting a little too "lovey" with me...

Surely we aren't going to see Sally Thomsett up for 'sexual harassment' next are we?!

That's me too, it looks atrocious :x . Why can't anyone see that this horrible computerised animation just doesn't look right? Totally dead behind the eyes, the movement looks unnatural and it looks like it was done by a child playing around on Microsoft Paint! Snow White from 1937 looks more state of the art!

I was a fan of Sally Thomsett too, both in the Railway Children film (I didn't realise at the time that she was already grown-up) and in the late 1960s - early 1970s ITV sitcom 'Man About The House' in which she starred with Paula Wilcox , Richard O'Sullivan, and (playing the trio's landlords) Yootha Joyce and Brian Murphy. That version of the Railway Children remains one of my favourite films.

The girl who played Titty (I think the change to 'Tatty' in the latest remake is ridiculous) in the 'Swallows and Amazons' 1974 film was Sophie Neville, who lives near me in Hampshire and is still active in the Arthur Ransome Society. She also still sails and interacts with various local sailing clubs, and this summer took Ransome's old yacht across the North Sea from Suffolk to the Netherlands to recreate the voyage in his 1937 book 'We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea' for its 80th anniversary.

I agree that I'm not a fan of computerised animation in any way! I did think the animals in the Peter Rabbit movie seemed to be rendered quite well, but its not a film I would think of watching, on the other hand!

I totally agree that Snow White is more artistic and better animated. I used to be obsessed with Disney movies as a kid and even as a young man - but ever since they went fully over to producing computerised cartoons only, I've completely lost interest in anything they do.

I saw the thread title and thought it was a film I'd missed about Peter Rabbit (I've always loved Beatrix Potter, after Enid Blyton she's my favourite author). I was disappointed to see it's a new film done in this style, the rabbits look evil and zombie like rather than the lovely gentle characters Beatrix Potter created :( . There were animated films of Peter Rabbit & Co done I think back in the early 90's with Niamh Cussack as Beatrix, that were charming, engaging and most importantly true to the books. In fact they were perfection and I do wish people would stop trying to improve things that are already perfect only to actually make it worse.

I love classic Disney but like you I've lost interest since they started making computerised films only. The Silly Symphony short animations from the 1930's are far more enjoyable.

I agree - I have many of the Silly Symphonies on two DVD compilations. :-)

Has anyone seen the criticism the new Peter Rabbit film has come in for? Apparently one of the characters has an allergy to blackberries so is chased by some of the others who throw blackberries at him, putting one into his mouth, so he has to use an EpiPen.

I hope very much that scene is deleted before it makes it's way over to the UK.
