Depends which way you look at it. (Very kind of you to say so, though, Pete.)pete9012S wrote:Surely that is an oxymoron?Courtenay wrote: ..horrendously Aussie..

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

You know, Rob, Courtenay tucks herself up in bed, puts on her headphones, then drifts off to sleep in the company of your voice, Rob!Courtenay wrote:your reading sounds fine to me, Rob.

Sorry to hear you have mild insomnia Courtenay.
I'm sure there must be some herbal teas that help one drift off?

Probably, but I don't like drinking too much in the last hour or so before bed, or I end up needing to get up again just as I'm about to go to sleep.
I used to drink this at times — it's from the makers of my other old herbal favourite, Red Zinger rosehip and hibiscus tea — but they don't seem to be easily available in the UK...

You really shouldn't talk about this topic on an Enid Blyton forum. She would NEVER have mentioned it.Courtenay wrote:Probably, but I don't like drinking too much in the last hour or so before bed, or I end up needing to get up again just as I'm about to go to sleep.

To be fair John, Enid did possibly try to include a storyline involving Noddy asking where he could spend a penny in Toyland, but I think her editor,George Greenfield talked her out of it!

I think John was referring to Courtenay's excessive drinking, not to her visits to the bathroom...

Re: The Last Summer - Robert Houghton
My copy of The Last Summer arrived today. I haven't started it yet and it may be a week or two before I do but I must say it is beautifully printed and bound. It's a shame that it will not be on any shop shelves as I think it would look fabulous in Waterstones' window. I'm looking forward to reading it when I finish the tome I am currently struggling through.

Thanks John! Yes - I'm very pleased with how it looks. Hopefully you won't 'struggle through it' - but thank you for buying a copy!

Re: The Last Summer - Robert Houghton
It's interesting to see how many relatives have said 'I'm buying a copy next week...' and then didn't, lol! When relatives won't even buy your book, what hope is there?!
I guess if I'd been 'properly published' (or pretended I had - as most people on facebook thought I'd been legitimately published, until I told them I was just self published) then they would have been more interested. I'm just too honest, that's my trouble!
I have at least received some royalties...about £6 lol! - and even if I never sell another copy, it doesn't matter, as it has cost me absolutely no money at all - definitely the publishing route I would recommend going, rather than Vanity Publishing.
I'm still thinking of adding one of my childrens books or maybe my family saga (based on my ancestors) in the new year, once I've done some rewriting.
Thank you to those of you who bought a copy so far - as I know its probably not everyone's cup of tea. Thanks for your support.
