I've always enjoyed books set in other countries too (Heidi is another favourite!), so I would probably have liked to read those Eric Leyland ones if I'd ever come across them. Not for the going rate on eBay, though! Village Under the Water does look very intriguing.

Luckily I've never actually ordered a book that was totally different when it arrived - but I've come close to ordering one a few times.

I just ordered two cheap-ish Eric Leyland novels to see if I like them. One, 'Half Term Adventure' was without a wrapper and just £2.44, but the copy of 'Mystery at Pigs Nose' I was about to buy for £7.97 is depicted with a DW but hasn't actually got one -

I found another copy which does have a DW for less money anyway, and ordered that. It will be Tony's fault if I don't like it!

Now I MUST stop spending money on eBay - at least until I sell a few of my books!!

Don't forget, you could always invoke Forum Rule No. 5,126... (And what a range you'd have to pick from in Tony's personal collection!!)

Yikes!! Well I enjoyed it, but I guess I was slightly biased as I was born and 'bread' (and butter) in Devon. But we all know that one man's meat . . . . .! At least I think you will like the John Woods illustrations and there are plenty of them.

I hope I haven't misled you on locations as I have six of these Leyland books and the one set in Switzerland is the only one that isn't set in the UK.

I was attracted to the fact it's set in Devon, as I know Devon very well - spent many holidays there as my Aunt has had holiday cottages in both Brixham and Teignmouth. It was actually the only Brockhampton Eric Leyland book with that style of dust wrapper that was for sale on eBay.

There were actually two, as I had had another one on my watch list for several days, but as I seemed to be recommending the books I thought perhaps I ought to buy it quickly before someone else did (it was a 'Buy It Now') and I did so this morning!

I bought an Eric Leyland book off Ebay this morning, Mystery At Mardale. I don't know what the story is about, I was attracted by the dustwrapper.

Just received my copy of 'Mystery of Pig's Nose' today - looking through it, I think I'll like it! I didn't realise it would have so many fine illustrations - like a Secret Seven book - and the writing style seems easy to read. I'll let you know!

That is the first of at least six books about Max and Scrap, Rob, and I am currently reading the second M & S book, All Hands on Deck, which I think is even better. I have just finished Full Steam Ahead, but that was about different characters. All these books have plenty of illustrations and I think the standard of them is very good - I like John Woods' illustrations which are all excellent.
