Great idea Anita, Rob has some books in his collection which I would dearly love to own!Anita Bensoussane wrote:Robert, I'm sure you're aware of the forums rule number 5,126 :
If you recommend a book to someone but they don't like it, they have the right to take a book of their choice (Blyton or non-Blyton) from your personal collection - even such gems as a signed first edition or anything illustrated by Betty Maxey. After all, people must be recompensed for the time and money they invested - not to mention the crushing disappointment they experienced.

I have a few illustrated by Betty Maxey which I'm sure no one would want except maybe Pete...but a rule is a rule!Daisy wrote:Great idea Anita, Rob has some books in his collection which I would dearly love to own!Anita Bensoussane wrote:Robert, I'm sure you're aware of the forums rule number 5,126 :

I like it. Anyway, I'm about to make a start on The Mystery of the Island, so we'll see whether or not I'll be coming over to peruse Rob's collection shortly.Anita Bensoussane wrote:Robert, I'm sure you're aware of the forums rule number 5,126 :

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: Mystery Of The Island - Isobel Knight
One chapter in and I'm hooked! Isobel Knight definitely knows how to get a story going quickly and grab our interest from the start.
Interesting, too, that the child characters are a little older than in most Enid Blyton books (unless you count the fact that the Famous Five, for example, if they'd gone through the actual number of school holidays featured in the books, would have been in their 20s by the time the series was over ). I think I will really enjoy reading this one.
Don't worry, Rob, your books are safe. Unless of course the ending turns out to be a let-down...

Glad you are finding yourself hooked! I'd have to be a pretty bad judge of children's books if I'd got it so badly wrong after reading it nine times! I think she's a great writer, and has a very easy to read style - surprising she didn't write many books, unfortunately.

Don't worry, Tony, my copy of The Rockingdown Mystery hasn't come yet, so I can't participate in the legitimate Blyton readathon!! Which is all the more reason to get back to this one...

I finished the book last night! Couldn't put it down. But I will save any further comments on it until after others have read it, so as not to give away any spoilers.
