Mary Cadogan

Post by Kate Mary »

Just heard that Mary Cadogan, a speaker at Enid Blyton Days has died. She was a writer and authority on children's books. Among her works were biographies of Richmal Crompton and Frank Richards as well as the standard work on girls' fiction "You're a Brick, Angela". I met her on more than one occasion and she was always a pleasure to listen to. RIP.

Very sorry to hear that. I heard Mary Cadogan speak at a few Enid Blyton Days, and talked to her briefly, and she was lovely.

I'm also very sorry to hear that Mary Cadogan has died. I have a number of her excellent books and was delighted to meet her and hear her speak at some of the Enid Blyton Days.

I too am sad to hear the news. I met her when she spoke at an EB day and have one of her books too. A really lovely lady.

I was surprised to hear of this. As with others, I enjoyed listening and speaking to her at previous Society Days.

Very sad.
I seem to remember she was involved with the sumptuous Adventure Treasury also ?

A few weeks ago my daughter asked if her bedtimes stories could come from the 'Treasury of School Stories' which Mary Cadogan compiled with Norman Wright. She's really enjoyed the ones I've read to her so far, and tonight I'll read another. Sadly I didn't get the chance to meet Mary, but we are enjoying her work.

How very sad. I too remember hearing this lady speaking on the stage at one of the Enid Blyton Days. I also have the Adventure Treasury she compiled and the School Stories she compiled along with Norman Wright.

What dreadful news - she was such a good writer and so insightful of the authors she wrote about. She will be very sadly missed.

I'm sorry to hear of her death too. My condolences to her family. I have not read any of her works but it does sound as if they were very well acclaimed.

I received this news today too. My latest copy of the Girls Gone By published Malcolm Saville came with a news letter, informing me of her death. It was very sad to read, as she was a contributor to the foreword to the Malcolm Saville Lone Pine books.
RIP Mary.

"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

I met Mary Cadogan through my great interest in the works of Frank Richards (the author of Billy Bunter, and so much more)......in fact she was for a long duration the editor of the Collectors Digest magazine, which primarily dealt with Frank Richards and his works, and it is through that avenue that we eventually met at her home in Beckenham back in 2003. She was a lovely lady and so knowledgeable, and I truly was saddened at her passing. We had kept in touch over the years. I have two signed autographs which I will always treasure--one was on that treasury book of Enid Blyton, and the other which I regard as my most treasured biography of Frank Richards (by Mary Cadogan)........
