Jill Murphy - The Worst Witch

Post by George@Kirrin »

Apologies if this has been covered before - did have a quick search...

For all who, like me, loved the books as a child, are you aware there are three more?!?!

Have had to buy them :)

Anyone already done so and got any thoughts - have just read the first of the new three and enjoyed it...

I've never got around to reading the books, but my eldest daughter had them all and absolutely loved them. I saw the TV series and thought it looked very good. When they had World Book Day one year, she wrote a letter to Jill Murphy and got a lovely reply back. My youngest daughter got the free book this year, but that just seemed to be a quiz. I shall have to investigate the new ones, it would be nice if we had the whole collection in the household between the girls. Maybe I'll even get around to reading them all soon. :D

That's very interesting - I had no idea there were three more!

I loved the books as a child, and at junior school a group of us girls used to play The Worst Witch in the playground and on the grass at lunchtimes in the nice weather - we would assign characters to each other and act out scenes from the books, and make up our own too! :D

I loved these books, and I had the other three in book form and on cassette. They're still popular with young readers now adays as well. I also loved the TV series, thought it was absolutely brilliant.
"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

I haven't, but they are something I would like to read. I saw some of the TV series when I was younger (I'm sure Paul Child crops up in that at some point.)
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

I've just bought three books from the series for £1.65 each in a charity shop - The Worst Witch, The WW Strikes Again and The WW All at Sea which I think are books 1, 2 and 4?
