Congratulations Liam upon the publication of this book. However, since the notification of this book on March 31, 2014, bordering on April 1, 2014, could we not entertain the fact that this is an April fools joke?

Assuredly the book is real Stephen.
The idea for this book came to me after encountering the website of the Enid Blyton Society, and after having read the entire series of 21 books five or six times. The book I ended up writing (or probably more accurately, ended up compiling) is a book that I wish I could have read when I was much younger. I cannot think of a better writer than Enid Blyton from whom to learn the mechanics of writing. This book seeks to show those “mechanics”, and to find that most elusive of things – the Enid Blyton formula. It does this in the simplest of ways – through categories of words and phrases. By revealing the range of a great writer as Blyton, a book like this would have shown me, as a young reader with writing ambitions, just what was possible as a writer. This book also functions as an index and concordance to the series. The full list of categories is given below. There are 14 large categories divided into two main sections – Nature & Society.

Martin, Liam (2014-03-27). Dissecting the Magic of Enid Blyton's Famous Five Books (Kindle Locations 53-59). Searidge. Kindle Edition.

Have just downloaded the kindle edition. Not the sort of book you could read cover to cover but I imagine it'll be quite useful to dip in and out of to save you rifling through the books every time you wonder whether or not they used a particular phrase etc.

I'm already wishing it had been published before I wrote my blogs on illnesses in the books as I've now realised I missed a couple of things.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Thanks, Stephen.

I can well imagine some people having a good laugh, but the book is real enough. Just a coincidence with April 1st. My intention was to have it available here last Saturday, but a few of the links were not working right, so I spent the weekend fixing them.

Yes, it's exactly the kind of book to dip in and out of.

Liam, it's no anecdotage! Does it include the short stories?

Thanks for sharing it with us too.

Pete,

Compared to the Anecdotage, it's quite mundane. :) And no, it does not include the short stories. I did buy myself a copy, but still haven't gotten round to reading it.

I certainly did, Liam. The book is a real labour of love, which must have taken you simply ages to compile. :D

Eddie,

it took 16 months to do. And I naively thought it would take two months at the most! But of course the book grew and changed from the one I started out doing. Even though at the end it felt like a trap because I couldn't seem to wrap it up, it was my way of enjoying the books, a bit different from just reading straight through for the narrative.
