The Lost Island Of Tamarind
Has anyone else read this? It's by a lady called Nadia Aguiar.
I bought it a few years ago and really enjoyed it, and found it again today at the back of a pile of books, so am going to re-read it when I find time.
The blurb reads:
__________________________________
Three children. Alone on the ocean waves, after a fierce storm throws their parents from the Pamela Jane into the icy waters below. Maya, Simon and Penny now face a wild rescue adventure that will lead them to a truly magical place . . .
Imagine an island with green mountains looming over pink sandy beaches and tide pools lit by the moon. An island with the darkest of secrets, where pirates lurk and jaguars roam - and a precious stone holds a power that is both wondrous and terrifying. This is where the children must go.
No one from the Outside has escaped the island before. Danger is everywhere. But they can't turn back now. Could you?

It's a fantastic tropical adventure with all kinds of exciting and strange things - would definitely recommend it to young uns and older uns alike!

Sounds exciting, Cathy. When was this book first published? I must admit I've never heard of it but I wouldn't mind reading it.

Sounds an amazing read Cathy, I must look out for it. Is there any hint as to where its set or is that left to the reader's imagination?Carlotta King wrote:Has anyone else read this? It's by a lady called Nadia Aguiar.

Re: The Lost Island Of Tamarind
It's really fab.
It was published in January 2009. I only spotted it by chance while I was in the bookshop and I loved the look of the cover, and when I read the back of it it sounded exactly like the kind of thing I love reading. It's a children's book really, but for older children. I'm normally not very keen on modern children's fiction because I much prefer period-set things like Enid's books, but this one is an exception.
It's set in the Caribbean, Flora. The author lives on Bermuda so has described several Caribbean places in the book.
If you want to read a sample there is one on Amazon when you click the book cover, gives you an idea of what it reads like.

Ooh that's exciting - I hope you enjoy reading it!
I'm up to chapter 3 again of mine as I'm juggling it with The Adventurous Four and The Famous Five!
