Norman Rockwell Illustrator 1894–1978

Post by pete9012S »

Is anyone else fond of Norman Rockwell the American illustrator?
He lived a long life and his work touched on many different genres.

The recent thread about Enid Blyton and the Circus reminded me of this figurine by Norman;

One of my favourite pieces by him is his famous Triple Self Portrait.I could stare at it closely for ages;

A lot of his work is preserved in The Norman Rockwell Museum which is looked after by his family among others;

And just recently,although I'm not sure if it made the UK news his famous Portrait of Ike ( Dwight D. Eisenhower) was bought back by one of his sons and is now heading for public display at the Rockwell Museum;

You can read more about Norman's long and varied life with all its twists and turns here;

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are fans of a man who has been called 'probably the best artist in the country'...

Yes, Pete, I'm a fan, too. Here are two his earlier works:

I didn't know much about Norman Rockwell before but his work is certainly striking and imaginative.

I've heard of him but I've never took much notice of his work. I must say that the figurine is beautiful. Thanks for the picture, Pete.
