Ida Pollock passed away

Post by Francis »

Merged with existing thread.

I have just heard that Ida Pollock has dies aged 105. What an incredibly long life. Her views on Enid, coloured by her marrying her ex-husband Hugh, must have been one of the influences on the recent BBC Enid Blyton biopic.

Well you really cannot wish for more than 105 years. What great memories she must have had. RIP.

What a gentleman you are, Pete! I am sure your thread was excellent. As you can see it takes me a lot longer to catch up with the news! :(

I've been in London today for a five-hour hospital appointment, Nigel (I saw three consultants in two hospitals). But I did go for a walk afterwards and ended up buying a second-hand copy of Michael Bond's Book of Bears for 75p, containing a chapter from Enid Blyton's Tales of Toyland featuring Bruiny Bear. Grace Lodge's illustrations look super enlarged! Soon afterwards, I was drawn to a carved wooden bear on a stall at Covent Garden. I picked it up but it was £10, so I put it back. The stallholder kindly said it was his last one and I could have it for a fiver if I liked - so I'm now the proud owner of a bear to go with my book!

Sorry to have gone off-topic. I read Ida Pollock's autobiography Starlight when it first came out about four years ago and I'd like to read it again in the near future, but unfortunately I've forgotten where I put it!
