I have a copy of 'The Fairy Caravan' in hardback with a dust wrapper from the 1970's I think. 8) It's okay, but her strength was definitely writing shorter books, I think!

Hill Top is a great place to visit, especially if you're familiar with the illustrations in the books, as there are so many parts of the house and garden that Beatrix used in her illustrations, and it's fun to walk into the pages of her books, as well as visiting such a nice old house in a gorgeous location.

I thought the same about choosing Quentin Blake to illustrate the 'new' Beatrix Potter story - but the one illustration I've seen so far doesn't look too bad, and has a nice style to it -

'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

It does look rather like someone's taken a traditional Beatrix Potter cover and graffiti'd it. :(

On Amazon, it says 'cover to be revealed March 8th' - so not sure what the proper cover is...but this one I posted above is on a few sites!

Surely they should have used the one and only Beatrix Potter illustration on the front?

I was interested to learn that one of this year's designs for the 50p coin shows Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho ... 92681.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I like the Great Fire of London design for the £2 coin too.

According to this article, a coloured Peter Rabbit 50p coin has also been brought out for collectors:

http://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/f ... are_btn_tw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Peter Rabbit is the first character from children's literature to appear on a UK coin. Three more Beatrix Potter characters will appear on coins later in the year, as part of celebrations marking 150 years since her birth.

Edit: There's a 'Which Beatrix Potter Character Are You?' quiz here:

I came out as Mrs Tiggy-Winkle:
You're Mrs Tiggy-Winkle the hedgehog! You care a lot about working hard at everything you do but always find time for a good chat and a cup of tea, as friends are very important to you and you love to socialise!

I came out as Mrs Tiggy-Winkle too, which really surprised me, as I thought I chose far more of the "adventurous" sounding answers than the "caring" or "stay at home" ones — let alone anything to do with washing and ironing! :lol:

I think Quentin Blake is appropriate for Roald Dahl. Beatrix Potter books should have her own illustrations, which are indeed beautiful.
Has anyone seen the movie of her life?

I watched Miss Potter a couple of years ago and found it very moving. I wrote a more detailed comment on page 3 of this thread, 3rd post from the top.

Yes, I saw that film a few years ago and loved it — especially the way her characters literally came to life on the pages! :D I thought it was a beautifully made film. The really sad part had me in tears even though I already knew what was going to happen!

Indeed, it such a good movie. As I didn't know what was going to happen it really took me by surprise, it was really sad. But overall, it really portrays her world and her books. :D

I did the quiz Anita and I was Mrs Tiggy Winkl as well! I would love to go to Beatrix Potter's House in Cumbria - maybe another Blyton gathering, specifically geared for our friends in the north1 Not really Blyton of course but obviously having the appeal of someone who likes to escape the realities of life and find a fictional world.
