Mrs. H. C. Cradock

Post by Katharine »

I've just finished reading a book called Peggy and Joan by the above author. I can't remember where or when I bought the book, it has £2.50 pencilled inside it, but I don't know if I paid that much for it as although all the pages appear to be there, it has been srcibbled in, coloured and and ripped in places. However another pencil note in it says it would be worth £12 - £15 if it were in good condition.

I was trying to work out when the book was written based on the illustrations, and guessed the 1930s, but a spot of Googling said it was first published in 1922. I then discovered that the author wrote a number of books featuring dolls, mainly under the titles Joesephine and ..... A quick look on E-Bay showed these books are very expensive in good condition - anything from £25 - £60.

Has anyone else got any of these books? I really liked the story, very simple, just about two little girls furnishing their dolls house, but somehow the author really seemed to capture how little girls think and play.

Ooh, that's naughty! I wasn't suggesting anyone had their own copies from childhood, merely wondering if anyone else collected them. :D
