Samuel's OTTER & her Teddy Bear

Not sure what the actual title of this new children's picture book will be. Maybe someone with better web-search skills than me can trawl around the
HarperCollinsPublishers website and find out more. Please let it be the first of a
series of books......
What cunning (and outrageous) plan(s) will Otter have to save the Otter Keeper from the dastardly machinations of their neighbour, Kate?
Don't know what the heck I'm rambling on about? Worry not, more confusion may lie ahead, but eventually all of us who like to read picture books to younger family members will be able to share the first Otter book with them.
Meanwhile, those with the time to spare could eyeball

I find Samuel's artwork entertaining. Definitely worth a look, forumites.
Otter's latest
Kate Trap can be viewed at

Heath Robinson.....not to mention the Forest of Boland Light Railway!
Enjoy.

PICNIC IN THE PARK

Ah, a
Summer picnic, with you sitting comfortably on a park bench in the sunshine, munching your favourite food.....
Then come the freeloaders!
- Insects, of course - not Gadzooks, who dines on horseback...
Squirrels and other small mammals - in the USA skunks are possible...
And the raucous yells of birds - starving they say - demanding their share...
But
Otter isn't fooled - those feathered freeloaders seem
far too well-fed.

OTTER HATES the BOOSTER SEAT

Being strapped into a car safety seat is a special humiliation reserved for tiny people like Otter. Yes, one gets to
go places, but one's shortness is advertised to all the world......
Click on the link to see Otter in this embarrassing situation:

- OTTER TOTALLY HATES her BOOSTER SEAT!!!!!
Want to bet that this scene gets censored from the book before it is published?

The first picture book in the Otter series,
- I AM OTTER,
written and illustrated by new children's author Samuel Garton,
is due for release in April 2014.
HarperCollins
Publishers are releasing the book under the Balzer + Bray imprint.
The delightfully domestic scenes, punctuated by outside visits to the supermarket and other places of interest, will entertain people of all ages.
Mr. Garton's on-line art+story postings over the past few years mean that Otter already has a world-wide raft of followers. (One wonders if Miss Otter has any computer-literate young
male otter fans yet?)
Fingers crossed that out here in New Zealand I will be able to buy copies for younger family members.
Likewise copies of the sequels, as they appear. Doubtless there will be entertaining episodes of
the Kate War, and perhaps even a
'Kate Strikes Back' scene or two, in these sequels.

Early this October, I got my hands on a copy of Mr. Sam(uel) Garton's '
I AM OTTER', which was published earlier in 2014. 'Tis an
Auckland Libraries copy because I couldn't find copies in any bookshop, but I've since talked a specialty children's bookshop into importing the book.
Those with pre-school to 7 year-old children in their family should definitely look out for copies. Don't let your littlies go without this very first Otter book. (And, yes, 3 of the 4 copies I have on order are for the youngsters in
my family.)
In spite of being published in the USA, 'I AM OTTER' has
not been insensitively '
J. Thaddeus Toad-ed'.

On Christmas Day I enjoyed watching my 4-year-old great-niece having her new copy of 'I AM OTTER' read to her by one of her parents. Won't be long before she's reading some of it herself.
