I presume you mean Children of the Stones, rather than Quatermass? ;-)

Even so, at the age of 6 I think I probably didn't watch much of Children of the Stones - but I did recall some of it when I later watched the DVD.

The first children's TV series I really remember vividly was The Enchanted Castle in 1979 and The Swish of the Curtain, when I was 8 and A Little Silver Trumpet, and God's Wonderful Railway in 1980 when I was 9 - so it seems that much of what I recall would be from 1979 -1980. :-)

Yes, Rob, sorry it was Children of Stones. I saw "Quatermass" when it was first shown, at a friend's house - we did not own a TV until much later. I remember it being quite scary - and I was in my teens then.

The Quatermass I remember was the last one - in the 1970's - with John Mills. Most people didn't rate it as highly as the earlier ones though. :-)

The Box Of Delights by John Masefield

Merged with an older thread.

I loved this as a child from watching the BBC TV series https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086675/ in 1984 which included former Dr Who actor Patrick Troughton. I remember reading the book after but haven't read since.

I loved the whole Christmassy, magic feel at the time. Does anyone else remember this and like it?

Yes, I loved the TV series, though I've never read the book - despite buying it. The series managed to be weird and captivating at the same time, and I agree the Christmassy atmosphere was wonderful. :D
