Re: Agatha Christie
We just watched "Dead Man's Folly" last night.
It's from season 13 of the Poirot TV series with David Suchet.
Are all Agatha Christie fans aware that "Dead Man's Folly" was filmed at Greenway, Devon, with lots of scenes in Agatha Christie's boathouse, garden (the hydrangea walk!) and on the river Dart?
It's a very well-done adaptation with one of the most beautiful filming locations that I've seen in any BBC production (maybe with the exception of the 1990's remake of "Frenchman's Creek"):
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?locati ... _=tt_dt_dt" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Hadn't we watched the David Suchet interview in the bonus from season 13 first, we wouldn't have noticed where "Dead Man's Folly" was filmed.
I wonder if Matthew Pritchard gave his permission that they were able to film there?
Did Agatha Christie write DMF with Greenway on her mind?

Re: Agatha Christie
Yes, I am aware of the fact, Chrissie and I have read it somewhere that Matthew Prichard gave his consent to the film's crews.
Very intresting information, Pete. I didn't know most of them.
Agatha Christie had three homes apart from her childhood's house in Torquay called Ashfield Villa.
1) Sunningdale in Surrey-resided with her first husband, Archie Christie.
2) Winterbrook, Wallingford- her house with her second husband, Max Mallowan.
3) Greenway, Torquay Devon- her holiday house/winter house.

Yes, I saw the episode Dead Man's Folly, Chrissie and knew it was filmed at Greenway, which is a lovely home and one l've visited on a couple of occasions now. It's a great walk down to the boathouse which is also well worth seeing. I actually used Agatha's boathouse over at Greenway, in my continuation novel on this site - Rook's Rock Mystery.
Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.

This is a great book which I heartily recommend:
Agatha Christie at Home
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Agatha-Christi ... 0711235635" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.poirot.us/acathome.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;The author takes us on a journey through Agatha's various residences and their influence on her. We visit twelve homes (before WWII, she owned eight of them!), plus a few more whilst she lived in the Middle East. With careful detail, we learn about her love of houses--from her doll houses of her childhood to her favorite--Greenway on the River Dart in Devon. Agatha had always loved houses we learn; says she: "I have gone over innumerable houses, furnished houses, decorated houses, made structural alterations to houses. Houses! God bless houses!"

No, I was not aware of the set of 3 books.
And the list of Devon places will come very handy when we'll prepare our trip to Southern England (Devon included) in a few years.
Thank you so much!!!

Re: Agatha Christie
BTW I'm waiting for years for a decent DVD release of "Ordeal By Innocence" with Donald Sutherland and Faye Dunaway. We have a bad DVD transfer from it which is rather dark.pete9012S wrote:PeteA special boxed set of the three Agatha Christie novels set in or around her home of Greenway House in Devon.
So every few years I check amazon, but it's still not available (only a dubious copy from Spain for an exorbitant price ).

Pete, I bought the Agatha Christie book by Macaskill via amazon.co.uk in February this year. It's wonderful!pete9012S wrote:This is a great book which I heartily recommend:

I finally received the Greenway brochure as well.
I also own the other coffee table book on Daphne DuMaurier written by Macaskill which is equally good. It has many "new" photos which I've never seen before in any of my DDM books collection. A must have!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: Agatha Christie
Julie, Nigel and Pete, which other books on Agatha Christie could you recommend when one would like to find out more about the AC crime novels and what inspired them?pete9012S wrote: Agatha Christie at Home
I have the old AC biography by Janet Morgan, but it focuses more on AC's life than on her books.
Also have read AC's memoir and her autobiographical book on Bagdad.
But there should be more books around on her oeuvre!
