I'm reading The Fairy Caravan by Beatrix Potter, her only novel. It is absolutely charming , it starts with Tuppenny the guinea-pig running away to join the circus, a very special circus, invisible to the 'Big Folk', who perform for the animals of farm, field and hedgerow of the north country. Beatrix Potter died more than 70 years ago so her books ( with one or two exceptions) are now out of copyright. The Fairy Caravan is available free from faded page. I highly recommend it.

I have it as a novel, from the 1970's, the same as the one below - but I don't think I've ever read it!

I'm currently halfway through 'Wrecker's Bay' by Percy Woodcock. I highly recommend it. His style is quick and easy to read, and he keeps up the action through every chapter. :-)

You should try The Fairy Caravan Rob. It is delighful and witty and is as much a collection of stories as a novel. Your edition has some beautiful colour plates.

I like the sound of this book Rob - do you have any more info about the author and what order his books were published in?

Unfortunately I don't know much about him. Doing a search on eBay, I notice that he was obviously an expert on sailing and boats and wrote some factual books about sailing, as well as children's novels. Most seem to be set in Cornwall and involve sailing. The version of Wrecker''s Bay I have is from the 'Abbey Rewards' series, but is also available in other editions on eBay. The style is very similar to an Enid Blyton book, set in the 1950's, about two boys getting involved in adventures.

here's an eBay book search -

I’m currently reading The Public Confessions of a Middle-Aged Woman by Sue Townsend. It was first published in 2001 and is absolutely hilarious.

I got Ruth Praver Jhabvalla's ESMOND IN INDIA in Hay-on-Wye recently, an author I haven't read for years, an interesting comedy of manners about affluent Indian society.

Currently rereading 'The Mystery of the Island' by Isobel Knight. It's my 11th time of reading it - I know this because I started writing my name and the date every time I read it - shows how much I liked it! - starting in 1980 when I was 9, then in 1982, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1994, 2003, 2004, 2009.

By the way, has any of you read Rosamunde Pilcher. I have just finished reading her book The Shell Seekers and I loved it. It was easy to read, really interesting and definitely very engaging! :D

I'm glad you enjoyed this book shadow,as I have just ordered a copy for myself to read and was wondering if anyone else here had read it!

Has anyone ever read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley? I've got to read it for my English Lit class and I'm less than a chapter in and not enjoying it at all! Just wondering if it gets better or more easy to understand, haha, I'm hoping so, otherwise its going to be very difficult to read!
