Just downloaded this free book about Jane Austin by one of her relatives:
A Memoir of Jane Austen is a biography of the novelist Jane Austen (1775–1817) published in 1869 by her nephew James Edward Austen-Leigh. A second edition was published in 1871 which included previously unpublished Jane Austen writings.[1] A family project, the biography was written by James Edward Austen-Leigh but owed much to the recollections of Jane Austen's many relatives. However, it was the decisions of her close friend and sister, Cassandra Austen, to destroy many of Jane's letters after her death that shaped the material available for the biography.

I've seen "Which Jane Austen character are you?" quizzes before, but this one I've just run across is a new one to me — Which Jane Austen heroine are you? (no male characters catered for, sorry :P )

For most of the questions there was more than one option that could apply to me, so I did it twice with different choices. The first time I turned out to be Anne Elliot and the second time I was Elizabeth Bennet, who are the heroines of my equal favourite Jane Austen books — Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice respectively — so it's obviously a highly accurate quiz. Well, possibly, anyway.

I got Marianne Dashwood. (Probably due to the fact that I am so romantic!)

I see Jane Austen's abandoned last novel SANDITON has been adapted for a new TV series, airing on 15th August on ITV - sounds rather risque compared to her usual delightful but sedate repertoire :?

Floragord, you say airing on the 15th, not aired on the 15th. Today is the 18th - have you got your date right if it's in the future? :?

edit: just checked my Digiguide program and it is the 25th. :D

Flamboyant dashing in the fast lane is mainly a happy memory! The steep, twisting, single-track lanes hereabouts means we trickle round corners hovering above the brake - the only boy racers hereabouts tend to be tractor drivers, up high so they can see round the next sharp bend!

I'm reading the biography "Jane Austen: A Life" by Claire Tomalin. I've read each of the six great novels several times as well as the minor works, unfinished novels and letters but this is the first time I've read an in-depth biography, it is excellent, scholarly but very readable.

Sounds great, Kate Mary! I haven't read Claire Tomalin but I'm aware hers is considered to be probably the most comprehensive Jane Austen biography ever written, so it's one I ought to read and it's good to hear your recommendation.

I'm usually much more than a year out of date - think in terms of centuries - but I did watch the first episode of Sanditon last night. I thought it was an interesting combination of the light-weight and the heavy-handed.

Same here!

Hope I can say this, but I like one of the (many) authors that has done the Jane Austen book writing spin-off, in this case, written a fictionalised account of Jane Austen‘s life. Her name is Syrie James and I loved the first one I read of hers so much that I contacted the author, and she replied, albeit a brief acknowledgment plus her encouragement to read further books in the series! I have done, and I would definitely re-read these again.
