Yeah, he has written some great books. Most of them are a bit too hot to discuss on a Blyton forum though! Desperation and Insomnia are two of my favourites.

If you like King, you'll love James Herbert, Ju.

A number of Stephen King books have been made into films, the best known adaptation was probably Carrie. That graveside scene at the end of the film always has the capacity to shock.

Its been a few years now since I read any of his stuff. I kind of grew out of him. But he has certainly written some stunning books, you should try to get a copy of The Stand julian, its easily one of his very best.

I'd agree the first half of "The Stand" is among his best; the second half is dull dull dull. Maybe because that's where the supernatural kicks in, and I like my horror to be "real world" horror.

My favourite is "The Girl who loved Tom Gordon" - which is hardly supernatural or even horrific - quite out of his normal style. It might help if you like or understand baseball, but it's not necessary - I read it before I got interested in baseball.

I am rereading the Stand at the moment .. bought it in a charity shop the other day. I was disappointed to find that it was the abridged version but still, beggars can't be choosers ;). But yeah, the first half was far superior to the second half, and for much the same reason as dsr mentions .. once the supernatural stuff starts kicking in it all gets a bit boring and unreal. The book would have been far better - and just as complete - as a straightforward human disaster novel.

Wasn't all that taken with Misery really but I only read it a couple of times, many years ago.
