Richard Wright?
This is a bit of a long shot cos nobody ever says yes when I ask this but is anyone here a fan of Richard Wright? For those who don't know he was a black American author who was born in the first decade of the twentieth century and died in 1960. His most famous novel is 'Native Son' but his favourite book of mine is his autobiography 'Black Boy.' I'd be really chuffed to find a fellow fan

The name is not familiar but "Native Son" is, although I've not read it. Will do more research and get back to you.
Always good to hear about trusted favourites.

Native Son is an 'ugly' book in a lot of ways - it's harsh and uncompromising and its message is not an uplifting one. I love the way he writes though. My favourite book of his is his autobiography Black Boy though. I love early 20th century African American history.

There's a biography? Oh wonderful, I did not know! I will get onto Amazon and order it straight away. I've read both volumes of his autobiography and always wondered if there'd ever be a biography - in the back of my mind I had the idea that it would be fascinating to right one myself but I don't have the first idea how you go about such a thing - so I am glad to hear there has been.

Cool I'll look there. I have an amazon gift certificate somewhere. That should be a really fascinating read.
