I read in the moment a lot of books to Flensburg and Mürwik (part of the town). Flensburg is the town where I live. Some thinks are so mysterious untill our days. But today there are less restricted areas than the 80s.

Chrissie, the family tree for the series must have taken a lot of doing, so many generations and such a variety of names altering in every book with the female succession! How useful to have a library which can switch back to a dining room, and so nice to display your books rather than have them tucked away in the attic. Enjoy re-reading the series, its years since I last read through it and its rather like meeting old friends!Chrissie777 wrote:Floragord, mine used to be in big plastic containers on the attic until we turned our dining room into a library (it's still a dining room whenever friends & relatives stay) and I was able to put hundreds of my books into two extra bookcases. Now Philippa Carr is visible again. I'm planning to reread the series next year. It has been decades...I remember how much I enjoyed the first 5 or 6 volumes. Did I mention that I once created a family tree for this series?

I've just started reading Jules Verne's 'Around the World in 80 Days'.

It's the first time I've read it, Farwa. I saw this copy in a charity shop the other week for 10p so, of course, I couldn't resist and I'm really glad I bought it because it is a fascinating and highly enjoyable read.

Indeed, it is wonderful. I love it so much that I have made myself a special bookmark intended only for this book, although usually I make generalized ones. The suspense at points, the travel - it is simply great!

I am reading a delightful book at the moment, not sure if it's a children's book or not! The Cuckoo Clock, by Mrs Moleworth.

I've read a book by Mrs. Molesworth - Imogen - very depressing!!! I hope your book is more cheerful.

At last I've got to the 19th and final book of the Daughters of England series. They are all written to stand alone, narrated by the women of the same family right through - so events are seen from a personal as well as historical viewpoint. As a one off rather than surge through the whole collection, the order is:
THE MIRACLE AT ST BRUNO'S
The troubled times of Henry VIII
THE LION TRIUMPHANT
England challenges Spain's empire of the seas
THE WITCH FROM THE SEA
The sunset of the Elizabethan age
SARABAND FOR TWO SISTERS
The divided loyalties of the English Civil War
LAMENT FOR A LOST LOVER
The tumult of Restoration, Plague and Fire
THE LOVE-CHILD
The Titus Oates Plot and Monmouth Rebellion
THE SONG OF THE SIREN
England during the reign of Queen Anne
THEH DROP OF THE DICE
The rebellions of 1715 and 1745
THE ADULTERESS
The Georgian stability that followed the 1745 rebellion
KNAVE OF HEARTS
The horrors of the French Revolution
VOICES IN A HAUNTED ROOM
The rise to power of Napoleon Bonaparte
THE RETURN OF THE GYPSY
The Napoleonic Wars and rise of the Luddites
MIDSUMMER'S EVE
Turbulent Cornwall in an England at peace
THE POOL OF ST BRANOK
The intriguing politics of Victorian England
THE CHANGELING
Victorian society and its hidden undercurrents
THE BLACK SWAN
Punishment and Justice as Victoria's reign draws to a close
A TIME FOR SILENCE
Secrecy and betrayal during World War I
THE GOSSAMER CORD
The 1930's and the gathering clouds of war
WE'LL MEET AGAIN
World War II and its aftermath

Re: What other author are you reading at the moment?
I read them years ago and loved the books, particularly the first six volumes. Even tried to create a family tree, but it became more and more difficult (I ran out of space on the extra large piece of paper which I used).floragord wrote:At last I've got to the 19th and final book of the Daughters of England series. A great series of books for every lover of historical novels.

"In a Dry Season" by Peter Robinson for the 5th time since 2000. It's from his Inspector Banks series. Love it!!!
