Re: Angela Brazil
I posted pictures of a few Angela Brazil hardbacks that I have about 18 months ago, so I have re-posted the two books which are chiefly under discussion in this thread:-
The rest are on page 5 of 'Other Authors I Enjoy', if anybody wants to see them.

Re: Angela Brazil
I'd forgotten you'd posted those covers on the forums, Tony! Lovely to see them again. As I said before, quite a few of them look as though they might be by Mary Gernat. I think my favourite cover is Jean's Golden Term, though it's one I haven't read. Looking at it, I can almost feel the buffeting breeze, smell the salty tang in the air and hear the cries of the gulls.
Like Fatty, I was surprised to learn a couple of years ago that Angela's surname is pronounced "Brazzle" rather than like the South American country (or the nut!)

Spitty, as I was going to ask if a fan of her books would be known as a Brazil nut...

Since Christmas is approaching, it is imperative to let you know that the copy of A Fourth Form Friendship I have was an Xmas gift that read as follows:
To dear Felicity from Grannie Oakley
&
auntie Jennie
Xmas 1930
There have been separate threads on this forum and perhaps on the Yahoo Group that is devoted to the names of the recipient of, especially, old books i.e. wondering who these people were an perhaps even wondering as to whether they are still around and if not, who their offspring (that is if they had any) are.
Like all those old books, it seems printing the year of publication was not a top priority in that either the giver or recipient had to manually write the year of publication, 1911, under the name of the publisher, Blackie & Son Limited (London & Glasgow).

Re: Angela Brazil
Nancy Breary and Christine Chaundler both wrote books called "The Fourth Form Detectives". For what that's worth. (Not a lot - there's a limited number of possible titles. Antonia Forest, Patricia McKissack, Jennie Hansen, and Elinor Lyon all wrote books called "Run Away Home".)

Anita, It's very likely that Enid did read the book as a teen and then accidentally plagerised it, decades later.

Re: Angela Brazil
I've bought two Angela Brazil's lately - An Exciting Term with DJ that cost me all of £3, and The School on the Moor without, for £6.
Haven't read either so will be interesting to see if I like them much. I also picked up the first Chalet School title and the 37th Abbey School one (reprint dust jacket lists about 8 books (37, 36, 7 first) so rather misleading) but it was only £3.
Funny, though, as much as I like reading books by what you might call Blyton's contemporaries, nobody lives up to her. So far for me that includes Streatfeild, Saville and a few not very well knowns who've only published one or two titles.

Or very badly depending on how you measure it. I've just seen her haul from this afternoon, very jealous!

Re: Angela Brazil
Except about carting it all home!
I think that's the sign of having a problem - buying a second (or third) book by an author you've never read and aren't sure you'll like.

I've done the same - having bought 9 Malcolm Saville books in the past 6 months and haven't read any yet!

Re: Angela Brazil
Suddenly I feel better about my two Brazils! I've bought thirteen Savilles this year, but in my defence I have read ten of them!
