Subliminal Advertising?

Post by Kate Mary »

I know Enid wasn't above plugging her books in other series, Galliano's Circus in The Twins at St Clare's and the Famous Five books in Secret Seven Win Through spring to mind, but I've never noticed this before. In the first story Porridge Town in The Third Holiday Book there is an advert for The Adventures of Pip on the side of the bus in the illustration on page 10. I wonder if it was the publisher's or Enid's idea? I think it is brilliant, have a look if you've got a copy.

Thanks, Kate. I don't have any of the Holiday Books but I find things like that amusing.

Well spotted Kate Mary - I love this type of detail!

I notice from the cave that both books were published in 1948, so it was a well placed subliminal.

I'm sure I've seen examples of this in a few books...unfortunately I'm not sure which ones! :D Well spotted!

What a clever idea, no doubt about the power of suggestion 8)
