Re: Smith's Noddy Alarm Clock
I agree it might be worth having it mended. Its still ticking away after about five hours - but the seller said it would last ten. We'll see! It keeps good time...but I agree about having a ticking clock in the bedroom - I can't sleep with a clock ticking, so I guess I won't be using it to wake me up in the mornings!

There's no need to set the alarm if the ticking keeps you awake. That looks a nice little clock, Rob.

Re: Smith's Noddy Alarm Clock
Update on my Noddy clock!
The seller stated it went for only 10 hours and couldn't be fully wound. Well, it has now been going 24 hours...so he was mistaken.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that when I received it, I noticed Noddy's head had come loose, so I took the plastic front off the clock, and fixed it back onto the pin mechanism, so that it would nod in time to the ticking. Perhaps the fact it was loose stopped it working properly?
So I'm 'well pleased' as it works much better than the seller thought!

The clock looks lovely -congratulations on your bargain.
I find it difficult to sleep if I don't have a clock ticking in the room, so if you ever need to re-home it......

Great news about the clock, Rob. I recall seeing them for sale in jewellers' shops years ago. Am I right in thinking this would have been in the 1950s?

We all seem to have posted about the clock at the same time.

To be honest I'm not really sure. I believe it was the early 1960's.Eddie Muir wrote:Great news about the clock, Rob. I recall seeing them for sale in jewellers' shops years ago. Am I right in thinking this would have been in the 1950s?

It could be the early 1960s. I know it was a long time ago - when I was a 'mere lad'.

Re: Smith's Noddy Alarm Clock
I just did a Google search and a site suggested they were from 1958 and into the 1960's.
I don't think they are in The Cave, which is a pity, so it's hard to find correct information.

Re: Smith's Noddy Alarm Clock
Lovely clock, Rob. Pity it has to be wound (even daily) though - a strange notion to modern clock/watch users. Assuming you forgot (which I would be almost bound to), then you'd not know the right time to set it to.
