The Enid Blyton Society

At primary school we often used to have cheese and onion flan, which was just like quiche. I don't think I heard the word "quiche" until the late 1980s.

No - I somehow can't imagine Anne presenting her cousins with a quiche - they'd have laughed at her and asked her what on earth it was!!

I don't think that any of the things he read out to me were particularly relevant to Blyton books, but the author of the book was apparently a judge on Junior Master Chef, so I guess she knows what she is doing - I am not totally sure how Enid fits into the book at all!

Maybe it's just that the old rule still holds true after all these years — anything with Enid Blyton's name on it is guaranteed to sell like hot cakes??

Just so long as there is a recipe for the aforementioned hot cakes.

I don't think I want it then, I've already got recipes for rock cakes and treacle tarts . I was hoping it was more like a recipe book to make various foods mentioned in the books, mainly the ones from the Faraway Tree or at least something similar. A rock cake can't possibly compare to a pop biscuit!

I agree...if it's just normal every-day food you could find in any cookbook then I don't get the point of it. As usual, the publishers seemed to have missed a trick here. Instead of being truly creative, they've just produced a cookbook for kids that could have any well-known author's name attached to it.

I'd probably go for a book like that if it contained relevant extracts from Blyton books next to each recipe, e.g. a passage about the Five tucking into Mrs. Sanders' shortbread in Five Go Adventuring Again, or about Jimmy's mother handing out pieces of ginger cake in Mr. Galliano's Circus. It would appeal to me even more if illustrations from early editions of the books were included. We once put together some recipes and extracts for this website but Keith had a lot of work on and wasn't able to set up a new section.

Just stumbled across an interesting online review of Jolly Good Food — has anyone here bought it or at least had a look at it? I'm still strongly considering it as a birthday present for my mum later this year.

Yes - I had it when it first came out - its 'jolly good'! I'm no expert but I've made several of the cakes that are featured in it, and some other stuff. I haven't used the book as much as I could - but its well worth having.

So you do have an "Enid Blyton Cookbook" in real life then!

As he mentioned it twice, maybe Rob has two and he may let you have one of them, Courtenay.

Lol - yes! Actually, that was where I got the idea from for my article title!

I didn't rate Jolly Good Food (but I've not attempted any of the recipes from it!) I thought Five Go Feasting was much much better.
