I was of the same opinion. I wasn't quite sure whether this review was actually a 'homage' to Enid Blyton as Anita suggests, or whether it was criticising Enid as a writer for being too popular, or what! However did that review even get posted on Amazon...and is it even a review or just some frustrated writer airing their rather inarticulate views?!

I had a look and the reviewer is "Thumbtom" :? Reading some more reviews by him/her they are just as convoluted and quite incomprehensible really. The phrase "liking the sound of his own voice" comes to mind, except this is in print instead.

That's not a review. It's a meaningless collection of sentences. Whatever he was taking when he wrote that should be avoided.

I've now put this particular book back into storage. I'm not going to bother. Think I'll read something else instead! :D

I'm afraid much of what Pete finds and posts make no sense to me at all. Twice, this morning, I have read things, courtesy of Pete, and I feel as if I've had a stroke! What with that and trying to solve a riddle, I'm wondering if I'm too young for Enid Blyton?

I quite enjoyed that review. Although the reviewer is clearly trying a bit too hard to be profound and deeply philisophical, without the necessary linguistic skills to pull it off, the writers love for Blyton shines through. Plus they plug the Society web site at the end which is a point in it's favour surely.

I've just received this book in the post today.I haven't read it since about 1996 so I have forgotten its contents completely being honest since then.
I paid around £6 for a pristine hardback version with immaculate dust jacket.
This book seems to vary in price by quite a large margin:

Anyway,I'm going to give it a complete re-read and see if I can make more sense of it than the amazon reviewer further back in this thread!

Be good to hear your thoughts. I still can't read my copy without throwing it out the window!

I can imagine it would be difficult to read it once it's been thrown out of the window, Robert. Perhaps you should leave the window shut until you've completed it.

Actually, I can't find my copy at the moment...so maybe I did throw it out the window previously!

If I ever feel the need to read this book I will put it down and grab an Enid Blyton book instead! Mind you if I did read it I could write a review on Amazon - I notice there is only one review of the book so far unlike Enid's books.

Don't get me wrong - it's a well-written book...many people do like it! :-)

I bought a copy of this book and it arrived today. Let's see when I'll find the time to read it.

Hope it's quicker than me Wolfgang. I've had my copy for a couple of years I think, and I've started reading it twice, but never got past the first chapter. :? :?
