It would be great if Norman could be persuaded to try for a DVD release of this film, Petermax. :D

Not a hope! I think the best chance is if the BFI themselves choose to release it, and perhaps they would put both films on the DVD in the same way that the Malcolm Saville Society did with two Saville CFF films.

Norman hasn't got it!
This is a Green Knight Book which means that it is a book by one of the most popular authors of all.

Just to clarify slightly, it has nothing to do with Norman at all and I think he was fairly clear on the EB Day that he is not intending to bring it out on DVD. The only people to have a copy of it are the BFI, but the rights are owned by Granada. Even the BFI had to pay a fee in order to show it!

Ooh I feel a campaign coming on

How about I draft a letter for everyone to copy and send to BFI to try and get them to make a film?

Great idea. Draft away. :D Both movies on a DVD would be a wonderful idea. I'm sure it would sell reasonably well.

Journal 14 contains an article by Darryl Read who played Dick, Journal 15 contains a write-up (by Charles Brand) of the 2001 Enid Blyton Day at which Darryl Read and David Palmer (Julian) gave a talk, and Journal 16 has a picture of a Christmas card sent out by the Children's Film Foundation in 1963, featuring the cast of Five Have a Mystery to Solve.

Many thanks for those references Anita.I will enjoy digging those Journals out and reading them today!

I was given the DVD some years ago and have watched it once, being disappointed at how far the story strayed from the original. However, looking at the box today I am rather amused to see beside the Universal sign as suitable for all, the warning that it "contains mild threat and violence".

Oh, I don't know. I came over quite violent when I watched this awful film.

that's why I haven't watched my DVD yet!

Then again, I know you aren't keen on the Treasure Island serial either, which I really like!

I quite enjoyed it but having saidf that I have never watched it again since the time we all saw it together in London. Perhaps the sense of occasion and the company helped make it more palatable.

My God is it really nearly nine years since that day?
