There seems to be a book with this title available on Amazon.de. Would that be the same one? Doesn't seem to be too expensive. There's no picture to help me confirm, but it appears to have been published in 1989. There is also no mention of a translator (other books in the series seem to have been translated by Ilse Winkler-Hoffmann and have pictures of the covers). So it probably is your "ghost" book. Indeed, the two second-hand sellers give the original date of publication as 1977, which would coincide with Brigitte Blobel's FF books. Interesting that it's actually available on Amazon.de for fairly reasonable prices! Anyway, many thanks again for the pic.

Oh yes it's very interesting.Thank heaven I could read all these Gost-Books of the FF in my youth.
Indeed they are very rarely and very thrilling.But don't ask for details .It's really a long time ago.

By the way, Christophe, do you know what the German title of that "Famous Four" book is? I'm just wondering if that's on Amazon.de too, but my best guesses seem to be drawing blanks.

You may be interested to know that The Counterfeiters Mystery, a Barney Mystery, has been translated into English from German by Wolfgang Walter of the Blyton Yahoo Group. I beta-read it and "Blytonized" the language, re-titling it The Rumlington Mystery to fit in better with the other English titles in that series. I really need to re-read it myself and tidy things up as I'm sure there are a few inconsistencies, eg. a hat becomes a cap at one point, or something like that.

I found it quite an enjoyable story.

The first two books exist also in English - "The treasure hunters" and "The boy next door". But they have been altered - in English the books are about different children and the children (at least in book 1) are brother and sisters. In Germany there are Tina, her brother Tobbi und Tina's friend Tini. Nevertheless I like the "Tina-und-Tini"-books a lot.

I went through Heathers site and found the German Malory towers, The owner of the site has translated some of the books. They were rather funny a good laugh and an enjoyable read. I was reading it a loud and many times my mum and I both said it would never enter Darrel and Sally's head to phrase a sentence that way! Much to rude, but it was funny all the same as sometimes in Enids books I would Darrel or Sally to just say something a little unlady like.
The owner of the site writes at the end, that the author used a swear word, but she did not translate it. Good for her! It was not necessary to include it to begin with. That author should have know better.
