Glad you enjoyed The Castle of Adventure, Courtenay. You're in for a treat with The Valley of Adventure! Have a nice weekend away! I'm sure you'll make plenty of time for reading once you've read the first Chapter which is extremely exciting!

Yes, you're thrust straight into the adventure in Valley. Every time I read it, I become totally immersed in the world of the story and feel sad when I get to the final page. But not too sad, because then it's time to go voyaging with Jack and co. in Sea!

Valley is my all-time favourite children's book and if this is the first time you're going to be reading it, then you are in for an amazing, roller-coaster of an adventure. And, as Anita says, when you've finished it, there's Sea waiting to whisk you away.

As the others say you're in for a treat with Valley Courtenay. so it might be best to save it until you can do it justice rather than just snatching a chapter here and there. Have a good weekend anyway!

The Sea of Adventure just came too - no dust jacket (real or reproduction), but in beautiful condition for a first edition. I paid a little more for this one... no, not £2,500 (see http://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/foru ... 25#p211791" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). It was £15, which is about my upper limit, but most of the other old copies available on eBay looked too scruffy to be worth buying. This one looks like it's hardly ever been handled!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Many of these booksellers on eBay keep their books in the basement and when you get the book, it might smell musty.
If there is no rain in the weather forecast, I usually put the book over night upstairs in front of an opened window on the window sill for 3 days and nights and in-between I also change the pages several times a day, so that the book has a chance to lose it's smell.
After 3 days the used book doesn't smell any longer.
Good luck.
You will love "Sea" !
Did you already read "Island" and "Castle" and "Valley"? I don't remember a post about that, but I might have missed it.
Cheers,

I've read Island and Castle and am currently just under halfway through Valley! Must get back to it when I've had my dinner.

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?
Bit of an eBay spree tonight - I've just bought Mountain, Ship and River of Adventure and put in a bid for Circus! There were no other bidders for that last one, and the starting bid was low, so I've offered my maximum. Hopefully that'll do it; I'll know when it finishes on the 22nd.
Might just get back to reading Sea before bedtime!

"Circus" is a great and sometimes quite funny story thanks to Gus, but I never cared for "Mountain" (too much Sci Fi) or "River". "Ship" is not bad.

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?
I do find it interesting what a variety of choices there are for "the best" of the Adventure Series, just reading people's posts here and elsewhere. Valley seems to be a regular favourite, but I've also seen others claim Island, Sea, Ship or Circus.
Did we ever have a poll for the favourite one? I don't want to look at it yet if there is one, though, as I'd rather not be prejudiced for or against any of the books ahead of reading them if I can avoid it.

So long as it's not the sort of "sci fi" where they're abducted by aliens or other such beings, then conveniently have their memories wiped before returning to normal life so they can never reveal what happened - a la the Tintin book Flight 714 to Sydney - I probably won't mind too much.Chrissie777 wrote:I never cared for "Mountain" (too much Sci Fi)...

Yes, the title of the poll is 'What is your favourite "Adventure" book?' (under "Books", of course).Courtenay wrote:Did we ever have a poll for the favourite one? I hope you're lucky with your bid for Circus. Happy reading!
