I will update this list with all the further suggestions when I get a minute,or if anybody else with good organisational skills wants to tidy and update the list that would be fine.

Some great non Christmas suggestions coming in from Tony,Anita,Rob and IceMaiden.Thank you.

I love it when we all pool our brains and resources.
I've now got a few more stories to chase up to read - some I've never even heard of before,so thank you for all the titles mentioned so far.

Another older story is 'Bobbo's Magic Stocking' - I have it in The Boys and Girls Story book Number 3 - 1935

Also The Little Carol Singer - a charming tale set in Victorian/Edwardian times full of the warmth of Christmas good will - which is in The Ninth Holiday Book, !954 which also has 'One Christmas Eve'.. The Little Carol Singer also appeared in 'Funtime Tales' 1972.

Another I really like appears in Enid Blyton's Treasury - another heart-warming family story - A Week Before Christmas
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

I also like A Hole in Her Stocking, IceMaiden - and The Little Carol Singer and The Christmas Tree Aeroplane, Rob.

What about The Disappearing Presents (1944) and He Didn't Say Thank You (1943)? They're pretty similar and both are excellent cautionary tales, but I can't remember if they both deal with Christmas presents or if one of them is only about birthday presents. Another lovely story I remember well is No Present for Benny (1944).

The Dissapearing Presents is about Christmas presents Anita, another one that made me stop and think when I first read it. Finding your gifts had been sent back would be awful but not to bother thanking whoever had given them you would be even worse!

Another non Christmassy sounding tale is The Little Brown Bear from the Bright Story Book.

Thanks, IceMaiden. I like The Little Brown Bear too, though I didn't have it as a child. I've got it in the Award book The Little Brown Bear and Other Stories.

Against my 'better judgement' I just bought a paperback copy of the new Christmas Tales book from eBay - 'only' £4.64 and free postage. I'm not a fan of modern books, but as there isn't an original Blyton volume that just contains Christmas stories, I thought it would be good to have a few all in the same book! 8)

I obviously loaded this too early as I did it from an acknowledgements page that I was asked to check some months before the book was published! I have just checked my copy of the book and three of the stories have been removed and two longer ones put in their place!

'Good Gracious, Santa Claus!', 'On Christmas Night' and 'The Battle in the Toyshop' have all been removed and two stories have been put in their place from my original list of suggestions - 'The Golden Key' and 'The Pantomime Wolf'. This should be just 'Pantomime Wolf' and if I had been asked to check the revised page I would have told them to remove 'The'!

I will adjust the Cave at some point - and in future I had best wait until a book is published before I load it!!

I know, but I was put off getting that one as a lot of it is chapters from 'The Christmas Book', which I already have. Christmas Tales is purely short stories. :-D

Interesting that they took a few out and replaced them, Tony - happily they didn't remove any of my real favourites! I think I probably have all the stories in one volume or another, as I have most of the short stories in some form, but its good to have a few gathered together in one book! :-D

I have now got the correct contents for Christmas Tales and if anyone is able to tell me where 'A Christmas Legend' is taken from I would love to know the answer!

Perhaps if Rob reads the story in his new book he might remember it?
Just enjoyed this very early 1922 Enid Blyton Christmas story from our excellent cave.
How much has changed since 1922?

Just for fun, I thought I'd have a go at rewriting the first verse from a modern perspective. If anyone wants to do the same for the other verses, feel free:

On Amazon and similar sites are many 'must-have' things,
Ipads, ipods, game consoles; a robot dog that sings,
And lots and lots of Hatchimals - and Haribos to chew,
And Lego bricks and Gucci bags, and 'adult' Blytons too!
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

Good one, Anita.  I'd think about the other verses, but I don't have much time right now — and I don't quite feel like spoiling my own thoughts of Christmas as well as Enid's lovely poem!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

There's mistletoe and holly, made of plastic, everywhere,
And Poundland decorations swinging in the air,
Everything's exciting - all those adverts on TV
And our house is piled with Christmas lights, as garish as can be!

From Aldi we bought puddings, and economy mince-pies,
And all the sweets and chocolates - well, I can't believe my eyes!
Sometimes when mum's not looking, and nobody's about
I get my advent calendar and take the chocolates out.
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'
