Wait till Nigel sees this thread - he'll have lots to share and comment on with us about it.
He's got a massive thread devoted to it on the forum he runs with a bit of help from a young lady called Jane...

One of his forum posters even went so far as to say:
It's like televised Shakespeare...

It was a bit of a flop and one critic in Australia was unkind enough to suggest renaming it Paint Never Dries.
Wasn't it the London production that was described as Paint Never Dries? Andrew Lloyd Webber wasn't happy with that version and the show was totally reworked for the Australian production which was released on DVD in 2011. I've got the DVD and I love it! Anna O'Byrne is wonderful as Christine. Tony and I recently saw Anna O'Byrne as Laura Fairlie in The Woman in White at the Charing Cross Theatre and she was brilliant, as were the whole cast. Another gloriously Gothic show with beautiful melodies - well worth seeing!

My apologies, Anita, you're right. With a bit of Googling, it seems the alternative moniker was originally coined by a blog called West End Whingers, which probably says it all.

If I remember rightly, my friend did see the London production and enjoyed it...but he did prefer the video - so that makes sense. :-)

I've never seen either production... or any episodes of Sleb for that matter, so my apologies to Yak for sending her thread further off topic! I'll let it get back on track now.

To keep on track, yes, I am watching, I watch every year, but somehow this series isn't grabbing me like previous. I guess it's the fact that too much of something and you lose interest. If I missed an episode or two it wouldn't bother me, which I did when I went away for my birthday, I missed two days, but wasn't bothered. A few years ago I would have recorded it!

Oh, and I hope Toff wins! :P :P

So no - nothing interests me less than so-called celebs (washed up has-been's) trying to 'entertain' on 'reality' TV. I'd rather watch paint dry.
What an unutterable snob you appear to be. I am also rather surprised that you can make such a statement when you've never watched it!

Then, as I said to Rob, how can you criticise them?
Domino wrote:Don't worry about it. Reality television shows are just a flash in the pan. They are shortly to be replaced by static television shows like "Watching Paint Dry" and "Watching Grass Grow".
They call it "slow tv". Some of it is remarkably good. One had a camera placed at the front of a canal-boat and we were treated to a two-hour journey along a canal. I did find another, set on a bus in Wales, a tad monotonous, though.

Haha! It always amuses me how people can be so down on a programme, then state that they are proud to say have never watched it! I must say I think some of these programmes go on rather too long. After all, there is a limit to how many times you can pour loads of cockroaches and mealworms over somebody! Having said that, I still watch Celeb and vote each night via the app. :D

A more objective commentary on the series can be found elsewhere. Thanks for the plug, Pete!

Nigel - I've seen clips obviously - I'd have to live on the moon in order to not see clips of this so-called entertainment programme. I've also seen bits of it showing people eating grubs, getting showered with worms etc etc. So I have seen enough to know what it entails - after all, when a snob like me watches Coronation Street, there are adverts for I'm a Celebrity in every break...

But I'm the same with most reality TV - don't watch any of them and never have, because they don't really interest me in the slightest. The only 'reality TV' I've ever watched occasionally is Gogglebox and that one where they trace celebrities ancestors etc, plus those with Timothy West and Prunella on the canal boat...but I wouldn't call those 'reality TV' exactly.

Newcomers please note, these are simply terms of affectionate endearment between long time friends.
Nigel is an absolute gent, and his enjoyment of this particular televisual feast may be enough to make lots and lots of people give this unique programme a try for the very first time.

I'm sure Nigel won't mind me telling you this Rob, but he's brewed his own beer recently.

Obviously Nigel has informed us that it's rather good stuff too.
It would be advantageous and helpful if you could give it your best Brian Sewell type appraisal Rob,whilst I (the creep) pronounce it rather grand even if it actually tastes like cabbage water!!

If you came out with 'our gang' - (Nigel & Co,) Rob, even though I don't drink I'd purposely order a whiskey so you'd have to get your hand in your pocket.
