We'd love to meet you too, María Esther! :D I would think it's during term time for you, though. But maybe it'll work out another time when there's a get-together. I haven't been able to attend any myself so far, since they've always fallen on days when I was working or had other commitments that I couldn't cancel.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Just a reminder to enter the date and venue in your diaries. Make it the first date you mark in your 2018 diaries. It's already in mine. :D

I really hope that this get together will materialise. :D

I would like to come if I lived in England, or were visiting.
It reminds me that it was rather galling that, in May three and a half years ago, I was visiting Britain (England, Wales, Scotland), and I was quite possibly within 50 miles or so of the Blyton gathering at the time it happened - yet, being 99 percent of the way there (from Australia) I was still not able to visit.
That's because I was with my mother, and, the way things were (one car between us and only I driving), it was just not feasible - my mother would have been at a loose end for hours, with no transport and nothing to do (walking not so good as it once was), and certainly wouldn't have wanted to attend a Blyton gathering with me. I found out very graphically that you really are not free when you travel with another person.
If I ever visit again, I will likely be alone (my mother has ruled out further long-distance travel), and if it's at the right time, I will try harder to attend any events that may reasonably be within reach. But I fear that, while it may not be completely impossible, it is not especially likely either.
     A pity....

Regards, Michael Edwards.

I'd like to start making a list of those people intending to come to the get-together at Exbury Gardens on Saturday, 12th May (meeting time to be decided nearer the time). This is a definite date, which means that you are either available to attend or not. I have received the following email today from Onkel Quentin:

I want to come to the meeting on 12 May to Exbury.
Is the day correct? I have to book my flights and the hotel. Or do you
think the date will change? Please give me an answer.

The answer is in my comment above. It is a definite date. I hope everyone will be happy with this arrangement.

So I'll start a list of those intending to come. Please feel free to add you add your name(s):

I'd very much like to come, but I need some more details such as what time we'd be meeting, what time we'd be leaving. If I come I would be coming by train so would need to know if I need to find somewhere to stay on either the Friday or Saturday night (or both), and also the practicalities of getting from wherever I would be staying to Exbury Gardens. As far as I can tell, there isn't any public transport to the venue, just a taxi, but maybe someone here knows different?

I'm not sure there is any public transport to Exbury Gardens until the Summer, Katharine. There used to be a limited Winter/Spring bus service, but I'm not certain it still runs. The New Forest tour bus doesn't start till the end of June. Hopefully, someone will meet you at the nearest train station (Brockenhurst) & give you lift to Exbury. I'd love to meet everyone, but I'll be working right up to my hols in Dorset, which begins in July! :|

I’ll do some research and post details of a meeting place and time as soon as possible.

I took this from the Exbury website:
South Western Railway trains leave London Waterloo and take approx 1 ¼ hours to reach Southampton. From Southampton, it is possible to take a Passenger Ferry to Hythe, 6 miles from Exbury, and then catch a taxi. http://www.hytheferry.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; tel: 023 8084 0722.

You may wish to stay on the SWR train to Brockenhurst Station (approx 1 ½ hours travelling time from London) as there is a taxi rank immediately outside. South West Trains also link Brockenhurst with Basingstoke, Winchester, Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth.
https://www.exbury.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you go to the Trainline website, Katharine, put in your home/starting station and Brockenhurst as your destination and you will see the complete journey and times involved. I would have done it for you but I'm not sure where you'd start.

Thanks, I'll have a look and see if anything is workable. It would be lovely to have an Enid related event to look forward to this year. :D
