There loads & loads of Football teams to choose from, Courteney. You can choose any team you like when you arrive...as long as it's Nottingham Forest!!!!Courtenay wrote:If I become a British citizen in future (as I hope to, if at all possible), will I be required to swear allegiance to a football team as well? Had to look that one up... oh dear. Perhaps he was getting confused by the fact that Caitlin Moran once called him "a C3PO made of ham"??

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I've supported Sheffield Wednesday all my life. I've seen them at Wembley six times and probably watched them play at home between 500-600 times. Still can't understand why!

Sorry but I don't watch football, in fact, I don't do any sport at all. Looks too much like hard work

That's why I suggested a football thread, loL! I don't do much sport either.

Second round of the League Cup (now called the EFL Cup), tonight, Liverpool (the team I support), will be playing Burton Albion (who are managed by Nigel Clough, son of the late, great Brian Clough).
Liverpool, have always been my main team, but I also like other teams, I have always liked Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest.

Re: Football
I think my dislike of football stems from being at schools that pretty much judged its boys on whether they were good at football or not. Because I didn't have any real interest in football, I wasn't a 'normal' boy. I enjoyed running and sprinting, discus, javelin, volley ball, badminton, basket ball etc, but none of those counted in the schools I went to.

Re: Football
Don't worry, Rob. I wasn't good at any sports when I was little, which is virtually a crime in Australia — couldn't run fast, couldn't throw straight, got mercilessly laughed at and bullied for the same. That basically killed any interest I might have had in sports from the start. It was only years down the track that I realised there was nothing physically wrong with me and if only I'd been encouraged and supported and it had been more fun all round, I could have got better and actually enjoyed it and become quite a reasonable sportswoman, even though probably not a champion at anything. But by the time I twigged that, it was a bit too late!!

Re: Football
Certainly a great result for the pool, especially as Burton haven't exactly been thrashed for quite a while! Fortunately, Forest sneaked past Millwall after leaving it late with a well worked goal. Unfortunately, our fierce rivals Derby went through on penalties, winning 14-13! Eddie would've been delighted to see Brighton through, but disappointed the Baggies were beaten on penalties!
