It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

A certain contributor recently remarked elsewhere that there had never been any mention of a chocolate teapot on the tea thread. I figured it would only be fair to rectify the situation with this informative article:

Fancy a cuppa? - I'll just pick some tea from the garden... this was the eyecatching headline to a newspaper piece today about the latest grow-your-own trend, tea (Camellia sinensis). Sales of the plant are apparently rising as gardeners cultivate them to produce their own brew at home. Apparently there are already commercial tea plantations in Cornwall and the Scottish Highlands with a third planned for Northern Ireland - that tells us, we get some tea from India and we thought that was as fresh as it got

I'm sure Aldi tea can't be as good as co-op 99!!!

I've recently taken to Waitrose Marquess Grey (Earl Grey with orange and lemon peel added — similar to Twinings Lady Grey, but this one is guaranteed fairtrade.)

Oooh, hadn't spotted that one, is it an interesting flavour? The attractive Little British Tearoom in Bexhill has a delicious Earl Grey with lavender and vanilla, worth going in for that alone but they do a heavenly Welsh rarebit for lunch, one of the best we've ever had, washed down with the tea its unbeatable...

Well, I think it's a nice flavour, but do give it a try for yourself if you like Earl Grey style teas. Now the Little British Tearoom sounds intriguing — haven't been there before...

Re: Favourite brand of tea?
Earl Grey is a big favourite, I usually have the "basic" blend but with so many interesting variations on a theme thought it was time to expand my horizons . Sadly I learned earlier today the tearoom is about to close its doors, hopefully the owner can sell it on as a going concern, a shame because it is so delightful, complete with pretty china, pleasant service, good teas and food.

I'm so put out by recent insinuations about my preferred accompaniment to fish and chips that I'm just having another cup of Kentish Lavender Grey Tea (locally blended at the farm shop just a few miles away) in utter pretentious indignation.

You're certainly busting the UK myth that all Aussies are beer swilling 'barbie'-loving convicts!!!

Re: Favourite brand of tea?
I do like barbecues (no beer, thanks), but tea is something I only started drinking regularly after I moved to the UK — mainly because I got tired of earnest Brits constantly asking me "Would you like a cup of tea? Would you like a cup of tea? Would you like another cup of tea?" and looking upset when I said no. So I figured, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
