I have never watched Downton Abbey before but it sounds really good. (On a bit late that's the problem!) :D

Posh, snobby, expensive consultant v local GP. This is a no-brainer. As soon as the local man suspected pre-eclampsia (didn't they take blood pressures back then?) and the posh one said, "Rubbish," - you just knew who would be proved right. The signs and symptoms that the GP discovered were typical of pre-eclampsia. How come an "expert" couldn't see that? It is a timely reminder to us that eclampsia (the seizures that resulted in the death of Lady Sybil) can occur post natal. Dr Clarkson was spot on, delivery, asap, was the only course of action.

I watched a tiny bit of Downton Abbey last night!

Couldn't really get into it as it was the first ever episode I've ever watched! :D It looked quite good though!

I started at last years Xmas special. Then as Nigel wisely says I had to go right back to the beginning to understand it all properly.
I think next week's episode is the last of the current series until this years Xmas special...

I've only seen bits and pieces of the programme. I'm just curious though, did they actually use the term 'pre-eclampsia'? I've always understood it to be a relatively new term, in the past women were said to be suffering from Toxaemia (not sure of the spelling). I know of two woman who had the early symptoms and had to have bed rest, this was back in the 1960s and 1970s.
