Thank you for my birthday wishes.

I've had some lovely cards and presents. I went to the school to listen to the children read as usual this morning. Some of them noticed the badge I was wearing and asked what it said - none of them knew it had the number 50 on - I suppose they haven't learnt to count that high yet  . One child informed me that one of their parents is 28 - boy did that make me feel old. :?

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Thank you everyone. I've had some good birthday celebrations.

Started a week or so back when a friend sent me the 1970s TV version of the Famous Five card game. Then last Friday I drove to Aldeburgh (about 20 miles away) with a friend to meet up with another friend for lunch. After a lovely meal, we had a very brief visit to the sea front - it was a spectacular sight, but rather cold and windy. Then back to the friend's for coffee - or so I thought. Turns out she'd put banners up in her house, and added a balloon with '50' on. They then emerged from the kitchen with a large cake which the other friend had cooked for me and smuggled all the way there in my car! As if that wasn't spoiling me enough, they'd got me a lovely personalised present to hang in my room. It was a lovely gift, as we were are school with each other, but lost touch about 20 years ago, only to find each other again recently. It was as if the last 20 years were just a couple of months, we felt so comfortable with each other.

Saturday saw yet another friend arrive on my doorstep with a lovely bunch of flowers.

Today has been filled with lots of lovely cards - amazing how many different ones there are to be found with 50 on them! I've also had another cake (can never have too many of those) and my husband cooked the dinner and washed up : He and my son both made cards with lots of photos of me over the years - I haven't changed a bit (I wish  ).

My youngest daughter made me a hedgehog pin cushion (I'm sure Enid Blyton would approve). I went window shopping this afternoon looking for something to spend my birthday money on.

My main present will arrive next Spring when I drive a steam train. :D

What wonderful presents and celebrations, Katharine! Is the Famous Five card game the one with drawings based on the 1970s TV characters, or is it the German card game with photos of the TV series? (Zoe showed me the latter at an Enid Blyton Day.)

The hedgehog pincushion sounds lovely - and you'll have to let us know how you get on driving the steam train! I remember several Blyton stories in which characters drive steam trains much too fast and end up in trouble!
