"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

I haven't had to start knocking any of my apples down - the wind has been doing it for me and I'm constantly gathering up bruised and browned apologies for apples to stew and freeze! I can't keep up, yet it grieves me to waste so many.

Some of ours did fall to the ground in the wind too Daisy. And they've gone rotten, trouble is Morgan kept bringing them in, eating then, and I've had bits of half eaten apples all over the floor. But I've still got plenty on our tree, and they're so high up that I just can't reach them.

I love gathering fruit. I've had some cherries and raspberries recently, and it should be blackberry time by now. Must look out for pears. I've always wanted to try mushrooming, but am too scared to trust in my identification abilities.
Gwendoline lay down, angry. She determined to make herself miserable and cry.

I pretty much buy Mushrooms from the supermarket. I usually buy the tins of pieces and stems. I wouldn't go out looking for, and picking, Mushrooms in the wild. Like you Kitty, I don't trust my identification skills. Especially since there are varieties that have hallucinogenic properties....

When I was a student I had a housemate who used to make hallucinogenic mushroom stroganoff. He would offer us all some but I always declined!

I'm reluctant to pick mushrooms in the wild too - I buy mine in a container from the supermarket or greengrocer's. Blackberries are usually at their best here in the last week of August/first week of September. We go annually to a lovely spot where they grow in abundance and pick enough to make crumble and pie and put some in the freezer for later on.

Sounds wonderfully very much Blyton Anita. It even reminds me of a certain Blyton book

I DREAM of eating crumble again. My mouth is watering at the merest thought of it.

No need to ask which one!

The first time I ever made a blackberry pie was shortly after my daughter had read The Three Golliwogs and my son (a toddler at the time) had had some of the stories read to him. They both loved the story about the golliwogs buying cream to go with their blackberry pie. My sister and I also loved that story when we were children. I remember reading it aloud to my sister one day and we were in such fits of laughter at the scenes involving the milkman that I could barely get the words out!

I don't make sweet pies anymore, unfortunately, as you get older, there are certain items that you once loved you cannot eat, and pastry is one of them for hubby and me. Now and then we give into temptation, but only if a bottle of Gaviscon is at hand
