That's so sad about the castle Anita!! I guess one of the downsides of owning a castle is the expense for repair work and such.

There exists a trust fund of some kind dedicated to saving Gwyrch Castle but I dont know what progress they have made. They have a website with some more great pictures of it. I have seen it from a bus and would like to visit it myself some day.
Those are lovely photos Anita, it looks like you all had a super time.

Cheers, Lucky Star. I've just had a look at the website of the Trust, which is very interesting although it's unclear exactly what is going on regarding the castle.

I wonder if English Heritage or the National Trust would be interested in The Cave of Books? I have recently been involved in renovation work there, so it may well be right up their street!

Excellent photos, Pete — after a stop at Siop Glynafon to pick up the essential ginger beer, tinned tongue and fresh batteries for your torch, that beach looks like just the place for a Blytonian adventure!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Many thanks. Heading home on Thursday via Clun - can't wait to try the cafe there!

Great atmospheric photos, Pete.

Lovely photo, Pete - made me nostalgic for Wales as I haven't been for a few years now!
The cave looked brilliant too! Any secret passages there? definitely the sort of place Snubby and gang might frequent!

Lovely pictures Pete, I'm glad you enjoyed it and it's making me nostalgic too! It's a beautiful little place, though you really need the sun out and bright blue sky for a truly Blytonian summer holiday look . I've got a photo of my dog standing in the entrance to that cave, I've often wondered what is in it and how far back it goes! I also recall that clifftop is extremely high with a very frightening drop that reminds me of the island the children are imprisoned on in the Adventurous Four Again.pete9012S wrote:We went today and really enjoyed it - many thanks for the recommendation.IceMaiden wrote:I highly recommend a visit to Llangrannog..pete9012S wrote:We're heading to Ceredigion - hope I've pronounced that correctly!!

If you're still in that area and want another Blytonesque visit, look up Cilgerran Castle, which is about 15 miles from Llangrannog. It's superb, exactly how I imagine Faynight's castle to be .

Will do.Thanks for the tip!
Came across this aerial footage of the beach and surrounding cliffs which is far superior to my grainy photos:

Great photos, Pete. I notice that the sea water is far away from the beach.

Yes,I don't know if that was because the tide was right out when we went.
There was very fresh seaweed on the side walls of the cliffs at the start of the beach and washed up seaweed and flotsam and jetsam right up at the beginning of the beach, so perhaps the water does come in much further at high tide?
I found this pic online which would seem to suggest the tide does come in a lot further - especially in stormy weather.
