My maiden name is Waddy and my father once tried to find out why the group had chosen that name. He was told there was no connection with any particular name - they just liked the sound of the words run together!

I think Eddie's explanation of the source of their name is correct. The American group Sha Na Na took their name from a backing lyric (if you can call it a lyric) also. They probably gave Showaddywaddy the idea.

Just heard this earlier on the radio — a particularly haunting carol: Bethlehem Down (Peter Warlock, words by Bruce Blunt)

I simply can't get the song Fairy Tale in New York out of my head because I can't stop listening it EVERYWHERE. It is really annoying because first I don't like that song, and second that song just doesn't represent what Christmas really is.....

Apart from that, listening to Christmas carols nearly all day.. :D

I'm pretty sure that Boney M's version of 'Mary's Boy Child' was the first ever Christmas-themed pop song I can remember. I'd have been 5 when this was in the charts, and it still brings back warm memories listening to it.

That is my favourite Christmas song ever by a long, long way. My other favourites being Thirty Two Feet and Eight Little Tails, Christmas Dream and We Need a Little Christmas, all of which I've been listening to repeatedly :lol: .

I took the time to listen to another early BJH classic (or rather two classics), "The poet" and "After the day" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdJsfnpRl5A

I think I've shared this one before, but it just came to me this evening and I found it again: Ludovico Einaudi — Due Tramonti / Two Sunsets A peaceful, thoughtful piece of music for the start of a new year. :)

Charlie Barnet and his Orchestra - Leapin' at the Lincoln

https://www.dropshots.com/Domino43/date ... 2/22:49:58" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The featured trumpeter at the start is Billy May, who also arranged this one. He was lured away from Charlie Barnet by Glenn Miller.
Charlie Barnet can be heard taking solos on tenor, soprano and alto saxes.
